Description
“My dear Christian, your dresses have such a new look!”, this is how Carmel Snow, Editor-in-Chief of Harper’s Bazaar, used to describe the innovative and astonishing first postwar collection of the “Carolle Line”, which was widely accepted and spoken about under dubbed name – New Look, the collection of “Maison Christian Dior’s” first Couture show on February 12, 1947. Only two years after the end of World War II, the French couturier presented the styles that symbolized not only a departure from previous looks, but the beginning of a new way of dressing: with the rather natural flow to the shape, the waist pinching jackets and darted dresses as a part of this look to accommodate the fabric increase from tight waist to chest and hips.
